Popping Up Plaids: The Devil Wears Etsy (Prada, Eat Your Heart Out!)

Historically, I've always been one to go mad for a classic and traditional fall/winter-trend....plaid. However, before I go on with the plaidness in today's column, I want to make it clear that I'm not talking about the comfy grunge-plaids that overtook every teen and college student's closet during the 1990's--I'm talking about the other kind of Plaids. Classic Plaids. Feminine Plaids. Vintage Plaids.

This fall and winter, plaid has popped up in a number of indie shops at the online marketplace, Etsy, and this week, the devil ain't wearing Prada--he's wearing plaid.

While the plaids showcased on today's post might not entitle you to join your favorite Scottish clan... they will add a little punch of pizazz to your warm winter wardrobe. So, without further ado, check out some of my plaid picks from these indie shops on Etsy:

Tartan Top
from the Larimeloom shop

larimeloom is a family team from Italy and their products are 100% handmade (and at this shop, 100% handmade includes the actual weaving of the cloth).

Schoolgirl Tartan Bag
from JenSport

A great fall-to-winter Schoolgirl bag designed with a wool blend tartan plaid, accented by yoke and straps made from durable black twill. avaiable from the JenSport shop.

Swinging Sixties Mod Cap
from McHatsFrom Sydney, Australia, shop through a fun selection of handmade hats or purchase a hat pattern and sew it yourself. Hats and patterns can be custom designed and tailormde for adults, children and tots. For more info, visit the McHat's shop.

bagladiesinpa

xsbaggage & co (aka bagladiesinpa on etsy) is based in Washington State. The owner learned to sew 36 years ago, and now that she's an empty-nester--she is creating functional bags in a variety of fun fabrics, including this fab plaid.

Red Plaid iSockit
from the blytheking shop

blytheking creates electronic device covers featuring vintage materials collected from a variety of seamstress' estates throughout Louisiana. Her collection of iSockits fit the iPod classic, iPod touch, iPhone, and fits the new 3G iPhone.

Hailing from New Haven, Connecticut, delightworthyn is self-taught seamstress and artist who taught herself to sew by reading notes from a vintage how-to-book about sewing published in 1927. Incorporating her love of the old, all of her pieces give a little nod to the vintage style.

Plaid Dress
from Julia Fredenburg
The simple, classic style of this dress designed by photographer and Julia Fredenburg. Her photographic work can be found at her website, and look for new updates at her Etsy shop.

Thanks for popping by the first edition of my new series: "The Devil Wears Etsy" If you liked what you saw today, come back again to see what's fresh and fab each week. And, if you're an Etsy seller interested in seeing your items showcased in a future post, click here for how-to info.

Happy Wednesday!

Good advice! I agree with a lot of what you talk about with the economy and quality handmade jewelry. And your advice in the end for taking care of your jewelry is very good advice.

About This Blog

It first started as a way to share the inspiration behind my beaded jewelry creations with family and friends. Next thing you know, this blog became a hobby on steroids--complete with a logo!

In my not-so-virtual-reality, I'm a freelance technical and marketing communications consultant who spends her time doing geeky things in the high-tech industry. But on my little blog here, I write about indie fashion and jewelry (mine and others). And if the kitchen's been good to me...I might even throw in an occasional recipe.
