Friday Findings: GUYGIFTS! (and weekly jewelry giveaway for the ladies...)

>> Friday, November 21, 2008

I don't know about you, but I find holiday shopping for the men in my life quite challenging. I set out with good intentions to find guy gifts uniquely suited to their personalities--but have historically ended up giving the old, safe standards--you know...socks, sweaters, electronic gadgets and my personal favorite Christmas cop-out…the Gift card.

Well... this year is going to be different. Thanks to the handmade sellers at the online marketplace, Etsy, I'm throwing caution to the wind and saying NO to my safe gifting standards. No store-bought socks. No super-sale sweaters. No gadgets. And, no gift cards. Instead, I'm taking the hobbies and interests of the guys in my life to heart and getting them cool gifts to truly match their personalities.

Since the Middle Ages, cufflinks have adorned the arms of many a fashionable fellow and because some of the gentlemen on my gift list are real gems, I want to give them gifts that actually mean something to them. Because cufflinks are available in such a wide variety of styles and themes, it would be hard not to find the perfect pair to suit your guy just right--and I mean that both literally and figuratively.

Vintage-Style Playing Cards

Here's a great gift for that guy in your life who is stricken with five-card fever every Wednesday night. Stack the cards in favor of your favorite ace (or joker!) with these 1" x 5/8" vintage-style wooden playing cards on silver toned cufflinks. They come in a red gift box and you can choose from all face cards and aces. Available from crimsonking.etsy.com.

Illustrated Art Cameras

Does your guy sees life in black and white or in Technicolor? Either way, decorate the cuffs of your favorite photography buff with these camera cufflinks. The artist has affixed illustrations of vintage Rollei cameras onto silver links and they ship in a hand-stamped gift box. And as a special for Posh Mama members, tillybloom is offering free shipping. Please see my original post on Posh Mama for the coupon code. Available from tillybloom.etsy.com.

Adventurer Compasses

In his perfect life, does your guy dream about waking up in a tent next to his Swiss Army Knife on the side of Mt. Everest? Whether he's an all-purpose adventurer or a weekend wanderer --these two working compasses will guide him in his true direction. They are set in sterling silver bezels and attached to stainless steel cuffs. Available from sherrytruitt.etsy.com.

Star Wars Clone Troopers
qacreate.etsy.com

Does your gamer-guy spends his Friday Nights battling for total world domination online? Well, the force will be with him when he wears these authentic Lego/Star Wars Clone Trooper Helmets. They come in several styles and colors and can be set on silver- or gold-plated cufflinks. They ship in a gift bag and are available from qacreate.etsy.com.

Stock Market Chips
enthral.etsy.com

If the dwindling Dow has his investment portfolio down, these stock market cufflinks will lift his day-trading spirits without breaking the bank. Recycled game board tokens are set on silver-plated cufflinks and you can select the text that matches his outlook...Bear, Bull, or Bell. And for all Posh Mama member purchases over $50.00 USD, enthral is offering free shipping. See my original Posh Mama blog post for the coupon code. Available from enthral.etsy.com.

Viva Las Vegas
VenusFlytrapJewels.etsy.com

And if you’re a risk-taker like me and in love with a gambling man, give him a little lady luck with these two handmade red cufflinks featuring 1950s' decoupage illustrations of two sexy, voluptuous vixens. Perfect for Vegas, baby! Available from venusflytrapjewels.etsy.com.

My, these are fantastically creative cufflinks! Do men still wear cufflinks though?

Aren't they creative? Some of men in my life wear cufflinks regularly --both to work and for fundraisers/parties/events. They also make fun accessories for groomsmen.

I'm so glad the cufflinks are back in fashion! Men need more outlet to express themselves with fashion!
