Where in the World?

Stockholm, Sweden

This week, I thought I'd show you some pictures of the Swedish Ship, Götheborg. The
Götheborg is a fully-rigged replica of an 18th century wooden sailing ship that sank when returning to Sweden from China in 1745.

Above the waterline, it would be nearly impossible to tell the reconstructed version from the original ship. However below its hull, the ship was built with all the modern technological advancements. The ship is certified to meet modern safety standards, and is making voyages to various ports of calls in the Baltic Sea this summer.

We fortunate to be able to catch the ship while it was docked in Stockholm. And, it was interesting to learn that this ship is capable of sailing at a maximum speed of approximately 8 knots. Its constructed almost entirely of Oak and has gorgeous pine decks. I don't know much about sailing, but visiting this ship sure made me want to learn (or to play pirate, that would be fun).

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this short visit to the port of Stockholm and a peek at the Götheborg. I fell in love with this ship and its story, and I loved the colors even more. In fact, blue and yellow are a color combination that I've made earrings with. Don't these Summer Day earrings go perfect with the ship?

Well, that's all the time that I can devote to blogging today.

Have a great Wednesday!

This blog first started as a way to share the inspiration behind jewelry making with family and friends. Next thing you know, my blogging became a hobby--complete with a logo!

In my not-so-virtual-reality, I'm a freelance technical and marketing communications consultant who spends her time doing geeky things in the high-tech industry. But my real fun comes from making jewelry, which you can find in my Etsy shop at: http://capitolagirl.etsy.com
