Thursday Thoughts: Red Planet Necklace

>> Thursday, July 31, 2008

I've been feeling a little bit in a fog lately, kind of like a martian. Too much to do, too little time. When this happens and I start to feel a bit overwhelmed about life, I turn to beading as way to clear my head and remind myself that I need to stop doing so much for others, and take a little time out to do something that I enjoy.

In my case, I love beading. I think what I love about it most is how you can mix texture and color to create something beautiful. Yesterday, I was so overwhelmed that I began beading up a storm. One of the pieces I created was inspired by texture and color. I found this disc-shaped piece of Jasper in my ever-growing bead collection that is now over 40 boxes strong, and I used the gorgeous colors in the piece as an inspiration for a new necklace.

I decided to call this necklace RED PLANET, because the jasper focal point looks so much like Mars. I uploaded it to my Etsy shop, if you want to see more pictures.

Red Planet Necklace

I named this 25 1/4" necklace after Mars, the red planet. It was created with Czech seed beads in burgundy, bronze Swarovski pearls (4mm), brown fossil beads, red aventurine and silver accents. The focal point is picture jasper disc bead that is 1 1/2" diameter. The necklace closes with a lead- and nickel-free silver hook and eye clasp.

And if you have a minute, feel free to leave a comment to let me know what you think about my new piece!
