Friday Findings: Tribal Trends

>> Friday, July 25, 2008

This summer, tribal and ethnic jewelry is a very hot trend. But, if you're an avid jean-wearing fanatic like me, you might not be ready to commit to an entire outfit made of zebra or leopard print. If you love the look and feel of the ethnic look but can't make the leap from your jeans, jewelry is a great wardrobe accessory that you can wear to achieve the trendy tribal look.

This week on Friday Findings, I've found some great pieces from independent jewelry sellers at the online marketplace Etsy. Their pieces are big on texture and even bigger on look--everything from spiky bone and wood earrings that look like tattoos to copper and silver statement necklaces that are fabulously bold in pattern and color. So without further ado, check out this week's collection of trendy tribal jewelry. And, be sure to leave a comment in today's post to enter this week's Friday Findings giveaway sponsored by one of our featured artists, Monkey Meditates.

Tribal Star Neckpiece
KatsKuriousity

I love this dramatic and bold Tribal Star Neckpiece made from bayong wood, Alaskan mammoth ivory and kukui seeds that are suspended between large cowrie shell spacers. The collar-style necklace is approximately 16" in length and closes with a gold tone toggle clasp. Available from KatsKuriousity.

Light Flame Earrings
Monkey Meditates

I went wild for these carved Light Flame Earrings made of beautiful light wood and inlaid with abalone. These are very hot, very lightweight, and an awesome way to make a bold statement. Available from Monkey Meditates.

Hand Carved Horn Earrings
Organic Love

I dig these Hand Carved Horn Earrings measuring 1 1/2" long by 1/2" wide. They are very lightweight and also feature posts made from horn. They are also available in white bone or in wood from Organic Love.

In My Tribe Necklace
Archaic Design

I loved the pleasing mix of cool silver and warm copper in this In My Tribe Necklace. The large hammered sterling silver bead and small silver beads are from the Karen hill tribe, and it also features warm brushed copper discs. It closes with Bali silver clasp and measures 18 5/8" in length. Available from Archaic Design.

Tribal Sweetheart Necklace
Dainty Crochet by Aly

I love a mix of texture, and this Tribal Sweetheart Necklace really fit that bill. Beautiful wood and Mother-of-Pearl beads are combined with beautiful crochet work in warm earth tones. Coconut shell button closures. It's 16 1/2" in length and available from Dainty Crochet by Aly.

Spiral Journey Necklace

Jennifer Kahn

Visit Jennifer Kahn Jewelry in Vermont for a delightful selection of one-of-a-kind Journey Necklaces made from found objects that she collected during her travels. My favorite is the Spiral Journey Necklace with a fine silver focal point and other treasures. Available from Jennifer Kahn.

That's all we have time for today, but before you go please share some love with Posh Mama BabyLyons. She is the winner of last week's Friday Findings giveaway and will be receiving a set of two hairpins and a pendant with an 18" chain from last week's sponsor, thefunkyfelter.

This week, one lucky Posh Mama member will be selected using www.random.org to win these gorgeous wood earrings from our giveaway sponsor, Monkey Meditates.

Gorgeous jewelry Capitola Girl! So earthy and organic... Great finds! I bet you could make something along those lines out of polymer clay done in a faux wood finish. Would look real cool!
