Where in the World Wednesday: Stockholm, Sweden
After a long hiatus, Where in the World Wednesday is back! And this week, I'm taking you
on a trip to a beautiful place--Stockholm, Sweden. The picture above is a windmill in the Stockholm Archipelago. The
archipelago is one of the largest in the Baltic and is the main
shipping route. It's reported to be made up of more that 24,000 islands, but some locals that we talked to said that if you were to count the smaller pieces of land and rock popping up out of the water, the total number of islands is closer to 40,000. Either way,
that's a lot of islands.
We arrived in the Port of Stockholm on a
uncharacteristically warm Sunday, and the temperature was glorious 94-degrees Farenheit. This city's waterways were loaded with boaters and
sunbathers taking advantage on the sun. People were laying on rocks, kayakers were out. The only other place I've ever seen
boat traffic like that was in San Diego. The place was gorgeous, and the people were friendly and fun.
O
ur Swed
ish Waterways tour guide, Osa, had a great sense of humor. And, as we cruised the Old Town, or Gamla Stan, she
talked about the origins of Absolut Vodka and Stockho
lm's Absolut Ice Bar. Although we didn't have time to go the the
Ice Bar on our trip, Osa shared a little tidbit that got quite a laugh...she said, "We Swedes don't drink to be social, we drink to get smashed." LOL.
Anyway, there are so many more pictures that I plan to share with you, but for today, its just these few. So stop by again, there's more pictures from Sweden that I'll be sharing with you in the coming days. In the meantime, as the say in Stockholm:
Ha en trevlig dag!
(or as we say here in the US: "Have a nice day!)
