Santa Cruz Mountains Wildfire
I was sleeping soundly this morning when my mother called from Southern California to tell me she had heard on the news that there was a fire burning out of control in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The picture below is taken from my home in Capitola. You can clearly see (but not smell) the smoke billowing in the air. The picture was taken about 7:45 a.m. Pacific Time.

The fire was first called into the CHP at 5:11 a.m. and the news is reporting that firefighters were notified at 5:17 a.m. At about 7:55, its being reported that evacuations are going on and that the fire is burning at around Mt. Madonna have destroyed at least 500 acres and that wind speeds between 12-40 mph the fire is traveling in the direction of Corralitos.
The news is reporting that Summit Road is closed from Highway 17, so if you travel on that road to work, don't take it. Fortunately, Highway 17 is still open. Area schools have been closed.
