Who Sparkled This Saturday?
Kerri Hale of KDH Designs

As we approach the end of winter, I got to thinking about snow melting, planting tulips, and how great it feels to be able to wear lighter sweaters again. As I usually do most mornings, I took a browse through the jewelry shops on Etsy. And then, I came across these delicate and spring-like SNOW MELT Earrings from Kerri Hale of KDH Designs in Burlington, VT. A perfect pick for the upcoming spring season! And if you like these, you should also check out Kerri's ICE MELT Earrings.

Today's earrings feature natural blue Topaz drops, an they have not been heat treated. They weigh approximately 4 carats, and are accented with glittering Aquamarine gems -- which also makes them a perfect accessory for someone with a March birthday! I think Kerri's SNOW MELT earrings are really lovely.

Kerri has a long-standing love for playing with color and gemstones, an she has turned this love into a wonderful collection of delicate and feminine gemstone jewelry. All of her designs use subtle and delicate colors, and her materials have stunning clarity.

I had an opportunity to ask Kerri about her inspiration, sources of support, and workspace this week, and here is what she shared with us.

Kerri, what are your top three sources of inspiration when creating your jewelry designs?

It's a little cheesy but if I see a really eye catching group of colors in nature I'll try to remember them and then later as I'm sifting through my jewel-box I will see what seems to fit. Other than that, buying new gemstones is a surefire way to get the creative juices flowing! And finally, certain people in my life find their way into my creations. I'll make something that, as I'm getting started, really reminds me of someone, so I will keep going on that sort of mindset and the finished product will seem very "Shannon" to me or very "Jen" to me, if that makes any sense...

Who/what has been your greatest source of support for jewelry making?

The Etsy community, no doubt about it. And the guys at work who forget to shop for their wives' birthday or Valentines day until the last minute, then ask me to go home at lunch and bring my jewelry back to work with me.

Describe your workspace. In what kind of environment do you like to create?

Well what I love working out on a porch with the breeze and some music playing, and my neighbors coming over to see what I'm up to... but for the other 7 months of the year where it's too cold for that I'm in my office/studio at my desk or in my living room surrounded by piles of gemstones.

Kerri, thanks so much for sharing your SNOW MELT Earrings with us today! Be sure to visit her stunning collection of gemstone jewelry at:

About This Blog

This blog first started as a way to share the inspiration behind jewelry making with family and friends. Next thing you know, my blogging became a hobby--complete with a logo!

In my not-so-virtual-reality, I'm a freelance technical and marketing communications consultant who spends her time doing geeky things in the high-tech industry. But my real fun comes from making jewelry, which you can find in my Etsy shop at: http://capitolagirl.etsy.com
