Where in the World Wednesday:

Nosy Nanto

Today, I'm taking you back again to one of my favorite places in the world. The island of Ile Aux Nattes in Madagascar. Only this time, I'm going to let you know that the original name for the island in the Malagasy language, which is Nosy Nanto (named after the Nanto tree).

I couldn't even begin to describe what a wonderful feeling it was to be somewhere this remote. No cars, sparse electricity, only some places with running water. It is really and truly a tropical wonderland with amenities that were about as modern as Gilligan's island, and I'd go back any day of the week. The three children in the picture above live on Nosy Nanto, and as I was walking down the beach with my friend and our guide, the jumped out at us to say hello. I'm so happy I was able to capture their jovial greeting on film.

They brought us home to their parents, who invited us to spend the day lounging on the beach. We laughed and talked all day (in French, you must know French to successfully travel here). We also played in the warm, tropical water floating around in their dugout canoe. We caught and grilled fish and even drank some homemade Rum Coco. (Mmmm!). The day was so special, really one of the most uniquely spent days of my life, so I commemorated it with a handmade necklace of gemstones, shell and bone. The colors reminded me of the sand and coral on the beach, and one day, when I go back to Nosy Nanto, I'm taking my NANTO necklace with me.

Anyway, stay tuned this week for an exciting weather forecast on Friday Findings! But before I sign off for the morning, I'd like to give a special thanks to Adobe Sol Designs for including my PERFECT MATCH necklace in her THANK YOU treasury on Etsy. Come by before Thursday morning to see her treasury list by visiting: http://www.etsy.com/treasury_list.php?room_id=29373
