Save Me! Sunday:
Making Magnetic Wrap Jewelry
About two months ago, a friend of my came back from a trip to Mexico and excitedly showed me a piece of Magnetic Wrap Jewelry that she had bought for around $5.00. It was a really versatile item. Because the beads are magnetic, you don't need a clasp, which means you can wear it as a anklet, bracelet or choker necklace.
As an experiment this morning, I made my
first piece of Magnetic Wrap Jewelry. Here are some of my lessons learned:
(1) Magnetic Beads come in moderate and super-strength. To get the strong click-action use super-strength magnets.
(2) String the beads onto a Nylon Cord or a lightweight material. Beading wire is too heavy and because when bent in different directions, beading wire just gets kinked up too easily.
(3) Space the magnetics close together and use a repeating pattern.
In my experimental project, the African Turquoise is just a bit too heavy. It holds, but not as securely as I would want it too. So, at least for this Sunday, its back to the bead board for me. Now that I've got a few lessons learned about Magnetic Beads under my belt, I try it again on another day. And, hey, maybe the next one can be used as a belt too!
Have you tried making jewelry with Magnetic beads? If so, please leave a comment. I'd love hear about your tips and tricks for working with magnetic beads.

Aren't they fun to wear? I have a couple of tips. One is to make sure the magnets are lined up with each other for maximum hold. The other is not to drop the necklace too often. Each time they go clunk, the magnetic force gets weaker.
I made my grandmother one with magnetic Hemalyke beads and Dark Siam Swarovski bicones. It looked great but best of all she could put it on herself. She can't do clasps or hooks anymore with her arthritis. I used a no-kink accuflex type wire, not sure what brand
wao! its look good. i also must try this magnetic jewelry clasp too.
