Make Me! Monday:

The New Brighton Necklace

As I do every week, my Monday post is dedicated to the beads that were screaming "Make Me!" over the weekend. This week, I've had wedding jewelry on the brain, because I will be designing a set for an upcoming special occassion. In true Capitola Girl style, getting started with designing commission pieces is always a little bit harder for me, especially in this case, as I am waiting for a very busy bride to get back to me about her final colors and beads. So, in the interim, I started designing pieces for my own a Spring Wedding collection, which will be coming out just before the start of Spring on Etsy.

Pearls are one of my favorite materials to work with. I love the elegance and sheen. And, as I was walking on the beach neaar my house the other day, an idea came to me. Why not design a wedding collection using pearls and crystals and name the pieces after my favorite beaches? So, needless to say, I jettied home and started beading. Here is my first piece, its the New Brighton Necklace (named after the beach that gave me some inspiration), and it features C-grade white freshwater pearls, and silver-foiled glass cube beads. I thought the glossy squareness of the cubes and the rough roundness of the freshwater pearls would be an unusual combination that would mix well together and retain elegance.

About This Blog

This blog first started as a way to share the inspiration behind jewelry making with family and friends. Next thing you know, my blogging became a hobby--complete with a logo!

In my not-so-virtual-reality, I'm a freelance technical and marketing communications consultant who spends her time doing geeky things in the high-tech industry. But my real fun comes from making jewelry, which you can find in my Etsy shop at: http://capitolagirl.etsy.com
