Thursday Thoughts:
The Power of Positive Feedback

Since I started taking steps towards launching Capitola Girl as a side business, I’ve been thinking about the power that positive feedback has had in my life lately. A little praise here and there has not only put a smile on my face, it’s given me the satisfaction and confidence that I needed to start pointing my life into an entirely different direction than I was headed. To see why I’ve been so happy, here is some of the praise that I’ve recently received from my friends lately:

  • After buying more jewelry than any one person should be allowed, one of my friends wrote something cute in my blog guestbook before the holidays. She said, “I may be addicted to your creations. My friends are talking about an intervention. Ha! I can quit any time.”

  • On seeing the first draft of my website, my friend sent me this via email, SUBJECT LINE: Do you just wake up in the morning…. BODY: and piss excellence? (OK, so maybe its inappropriate for me to repeat the P-word on my blog, but it sure put a smile on my face when I read that yesterday!)

Aren’t those great things to say? I’ve been really lucky in my life, and I’ve have a close network of girlfriends from all trades, all backgrounds, and what seems like all states. And even more than that, I know that without the support of my girlfriends, I wouldn’t be as happy as I am today.

My reason for writing down my Thursday Thoughts today is that I’m a big fan and daily visitor of the blog site, GIRLFRIENDOLOGY (http://girlfriendology.blogspot.com/). I really dig all of the girl-friendly contests, tips, interviews, and advice being posted daily on this site. But more than that, I like how blog author Debba Haupert writes articles and interviews people who focus on the importance of appreciating and maintaining a healthy network of girl-sisters. Like the interview she did today titled Helping Girlfriend's Heal. She is so right in saying that there are "times when we need a girlfriend to help us do the right thing." I'm glad that I have girlfriends who do just that, and I hope to be the kind of girlfriend who does that as well. Don’t get me wrong, I like boys too. But, if I didn’t have my girl-sisters, I wouldn’t have had the courage to start my business today.

Good friends aren’t hard to find, but it may require you to learn some new skills in order to keep your relationships positive and healthy. Appreciating the feedback that you receive, and providing positive feedback in return for her friendship can take you both a long way. Who knows, maybe your feedback will help someone build the confidence and skills that she needs to follow her dreams. So the question for today is:

Have you provided any positive feedback to your family or friends today? If not, say something nice to them today. You never know when something you say might be the catalyst for changing someone’s life in a positive way.

A Friend Bracelet
Tomorrow, I get to hang out with a friend that I haven't seen in a long time, and I'm excited about it. So, here's a look at a friend bracelet that is coming her way. It features turquoise, rounds, clear crystals, and silver metal beads.

That's it for today. Stay tuned tomorrow for a special featured artist spot on Friday Findings. I can't wait to show you the beautiful and unique piece of jewelry that she made!

About This Blog

This blog first started as a way to share the inspiration behind jewelry making with family and friends. Next thing you know, my blogging became a hobby--complete with a logo!

In my not-so-virtual-reality, I'm a freelance technical and marketing communications consultant who spends her time doing geeky things in the high-tech industry. But my real fun comes from making jewelry, which you can find in my Etsy shop at: http://capitolagirl.etsy.com
