Who Sparkled This Week:

Mikiye Creations

Since I first joined the Talent Database last November, I have been quietly admiring the high-quality and rich bounty of color that I’ve seen in the elegant and intricate creations by independent jewelry artist, Mikiye, of Mikiye Creations. Mikiye is a Southern California-based designer who began making accessories as a hobby many years ago. She has since transformed her hobby into a specialty, and now designs lush and romantic higher-end jewelry, as well as elegant floral accessories.

Mikiye's eye for color is superb, and when you see how delicately she combines these rich, majestic colors with her highly-skilled technique, you’ll understand why I think the potential for Mikiye Creations to go far in the jewelry design world seems eminent. Her attention to detail is exquisite. It is a true pleasure for me to share today’s Saturday Sparkle piece, The Queen, from Mikiye Creations:

According to Mikiye, The Queen is her prized piece. But I have no doubt that we will see even more spectacular designs in the future. In this royal bracelet, she’s used an assortment of shapes, sizes and colors; including Sterling Silver, Swarovski Crystals, and two sizes of faceted round Smoky Quartz nestled between opalescent silvery-gray freshwater pearls.

I had an opportunity to get to know more about Mikiye in an interview she did with me last week for today’s Saturday Sparkle post, and here is what she graciously shared about her jewelry and design background:

Saturday Sparkle(SS): Mikiye, how did you get started in jewelry design?

"I started about 8 years ago making my flower pieces as a hobby. Several of my clients and friends requested I make them pieces because they were unique and such nice quality. One summer, I think 2001, I dabbled a bit with crystals and beads to mix it up a bit and had everyone wearing crystal toe rings and anklets. A coworker suggested I start making “jewelry" since she said I had a great eye for color and texture."

SS:What are your sources of inspiration?

"I have always been in love with organic fluid motion. Nature. Whether in actual design or blending of color. I love COLOR! Beautiful rich tones and texture. It sounds generic but I can be inspired by almost anything. Well, anything I see as interestingly beautiful. There is such a wealth of beauty and aesthetic in my Japanese culture and history. Yes, history fascinates and inspires me!"

I'd just like to say thank you to Mikiye Creations for sharing her work and story of inspiration with us today. To see more of Mikiye’s fabulous jewelry and accessories, please visit:

Ah Susan,

I feel truly honored that I was selected to be a "Saturday Sparkle."
Recently I have been SO caught up in my personal life that I honestly can't share enough how much I appreciate your kind and supportive words. I feel inspired and thankful to have met another artisan that appreciates hard work...(and aesthetics)
:P
Thank You again for allowing me to be a part of such a wonderful blog and special event!

About This Blog

This blog first started as a way to share the inspiration behind jewelry making with family and friends. Next thing you know, my blogging became a hobby--complete with a logo!

In my not-so-virtual-reality, I'm a freelance technical and marketing communications consultant who spends her time doing geeky things in the high-tech industry. But my real fun comes from making jewelry, which you can find in my Etsy shop at: http://capitolagirl.etsy.com
