Old World Rose Necklace

There is something romantic about the color combination of burgundy and dusty rose. Capitola Girl loves the beads in this necklace, because they are the colors of Garden Roses in an Old World Vase or candlelight over vintage Haviland Limoges.

At her Holiday Showcase this Saturday past, Capitola Girl displayed one tiny burgundy and dusty rose bracelet that looked a lot like the necklace in today's post. And, as romance occassionally has the tendency to do, it led to other things..... In this case, a special request to create this Old World Rose Necklace.

Appreciating love and romance is one of the finest things about being a woman, and because she loves making romantic-colored jewerly, Capitola Girl leapt at the chance to design this standard length necklace. It features dusty pink glass pearls, garnet-colored swarovski crystals, burgundy abalone, clear chinese crystals, and silver accents.

Now that the necklace is complete, it is going to live with another Capitola Girl friend who loves cooking and catering. Like Capitola Girl, she dreams of starting her own business. Since Capitola Girl can totally relate to the challenge and scariness of venturing out on your own, she decided to share this poem with her friend. Its by Romantic-Age poet, Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Although the literary critics might disagree with her take, Capitola Girl is convinced this poem is about the importance of loving yourself and having the courage to both follow and listen to your heart. It talks about clinging to what you love, but respecting the delicate balance. Hold onto the dreams in your heart, but never too tightly. Let your heart, not your mind, lead you. If you think of your heart as a god in and of itself, and you have the faith and courage to follow it, your heart knows, better than your mind, where it will lead you... All you have to do is follow it!

Give all to love;
Obey thy heart;
Friends, kindred, days,
Estate, good-fame,
Plans, credit and the Muse,
Nothing refuse.

'T is a brave master;
Let it have scope:
Follow it utterly,
Hope beyond hope:
High and more high
It dives into noon,
With wing unspent,
Untold intent;
But it is a god,
Knows its own path
And the outlets of the sky.

It was never for the mean;
It requireth courage stout.
Souls above doubt,
Valor unbending,
It will reward,
They shall return
More than they were,
And ever ascending.

Leave all for love;
Yet, hear me, yet,
One word more thy heart behoved,
One pulse more of firm endeavor,
Keep thee to-day,
To-morrow, forever,
Free as an Arab Of thy beloved.

Cling with life to the maid;
But when the surprise,
First vague shadow of surmise
Flits across her bosom young,
Of a joy apart from thee,
Free be she, fancy-free;
Nor thou detain her vesture's hem,
Nor the palest rose she flung
From her summer diadem.

Though thou loved her as thyself,
As a self of purer clay,
Though her parting dims the day,
Stealing grace from all alive;
Heartily know,
When half-gods go
The gods arrive.
