Brown & Black Floating Illusion Necklace

There is an optical illusion about every person we meet.

--Ralph Waldo Emerson

And, since Capitola Girl recently added Floating Illusion necklaces to her repertoire of jewelry delights, there will be more and more illusion people walking about.

The trick with illusion necklaces is to make the beads look like they are merely floating around your neck. To do this, you need to choose a strong, but barely-there beading wire, a relatively small number of beads, and then crimp and close crimp! Illusion necklaces are great stringing projects for beginning beaders.

This necklace was a special request for a friend, who wanted a necklace that was similar, but darker, than an earlier Capitola Girl project (see Shimmering Chandeliers). This illusion necklace features black glass beads and brown jasper, accented by silver bead caps and brown chinese crystals on sterling wire.

About This Blog

This blog first started as a way to share the inspiration behind jewelry making with family and friends. Next thing you know, my blogging became a hobby--complete with a logo!

In my not-so-virtual-reality, I'm a freelance technical and marketing communications consultant who spends her time doing geeky things in the high-tech industry. But my real fun comes from making jewelry, which you can find in my Etsy shop at: http://capitolagirl.etsy.com
