The Serendipity Necklace
Did you know that Silly Putty, Post-It Notes, Penicillin, and Scotchguard are all examples of how serendipity has improved life?
So imagine her surprise when a delightful little thing called serendipity visited Capitola Girl the other night! Capitola Girl likes serendipity when it happens, especially since she knows there's only a 1% chance that a happy accident can turn out better than her best laid plans might. There's also something cool about how serendipity turns disapointments into little blessings in disguise.
For those of you who need a little refresher on serendipity, here's a quote from mystery writer, Lawrence Block: "Serendipity. Look for something, find something else, and realize that what you've found is more suited to your needs than what you thought you were looking for."
For Capitola Girl, serendipity took the form of bumping into someone that she lost touch with awhile ago -- someone with a very genuine demeanor who, for no reason in particular, seems to have a gift for turning Capitola Girl into a walking inside out smile. What made their run in serendipitous, was that if The Lemonade Necklace guy hadn't foiled Capitola Girl's weekend plans, Capitola Girl might have completly missed the opportunity to catch up with her old friend!
To celebrate the kooky nature of this good surprise, Capitola Girl made the serendipity necklace. This two-strand choker length necklace features light-blue crystals, iridescent monastral blue coins (a colored dye that, coincidentally enough, also happens to also a product of serendipity), and off-white miracle beads. Capitola Girl made this necklace knowing that a little symbolism and some great jewelry would be a good tribute for remembering the bright role that serendipity sometimes plays in life.
