Medusa Necklace
In Greek Mythology, Medusa was one of the three Gorgons, and she was reknown for having snakes for hair. She also had the frightening power to turn any person who looked at her into stone. At one time, Medusa was a beautiful woman who made the arrogant mistake of comparing herself to Athena, the Goddess of Wisdom, War, and Crafts. In anger, Athena turned Medusa into the horrible snake-haired creature that she became.
This matinee length necklace and earring set was created by Capitola Girl from russian serpentine flat ovals, sandalwood mala beads, yellow-oranage wood hair beads, and black india glass. According to gemstone lore, Serpentine was often worn as protection from snake bites. Capitola Girl kind of thought that with head full of snakes, Medusa would most certainly appreciate a necklace like that.

About This Blog

This blog first started as a way to share the inspiration behind jewelry making with family and friends. Next thing you know, my blogging became a hobby--complete with a logo!

In my not-so-virtual-reality, I'm a freelance technical and marketing communications consultant who spends her time doing geeky things in the high-tech industry. But my real fun comes from making jewelry, which you can find in my Etsy shop at: http://capitolagirl.etsy.com
