From Junk to Jewelry

You never know what you might find at a Yard Sale, especially if you live in Santa Cruz, where people like to travel, bead and craft. Last week while Capitola Girl was going for a walk, she happened upon a street full of yard sales which was like hitting the mother lode.

Being a seasoned bargain shopper and highly curious, Capitola Girl couldn't pass up the opportunity to dig through other people's junk. What she discovered was an inconspicous box loaded with trinkets and treasures for jewelry making. The focal point on this necklace was one of a handful of trinkets she found that day.

This Opera length necklace features a Peruvian Ocarina--an obscure wind instrument constructed of terra cotta and painted blue with an animal motif. Not to be undone, Capitola Girl raided her own bead collection and selected these beads for a matching chain and earring set, which features blue murano glass squares, red adventurine cone and round beads, and blue seed bead accents. Not bad for an hour of unexpected shopping!

About This Blog

This blog first started as a way to share the inspiration behind jewelry making with family and friends. Next thing you know, my blogging became a hobby--complete with a logo!

In my not-so-virtual-reality, I'm a freelance technical and marketing communications consultant who spends her time doing geeky things in the high-tech industry. But my real fun comes from making jewelry, which you can find in my Etsy shop at: http://capitolagirl.etsy.com
